Review of the Karoo Supergroup in the Zambezi Valley - Brent Barber

On the 11th December 2015 Brent Barber presented his Review of the Karoo Supergroup in the Zambezi Valley -  this can be downloaded below.

The talk was well recived by approxmiately 30 members and followed by lively discussion.  

The Mennell Society organised a Christmas Braai after the talk.

Passing of Dr Fatima Ferraz

We have had sad news that Dr Fatima Ferraz passed away last Friday night in hospital in Johannesburg after 6 weeks in ICU, following complications that set in after a major 11 hour emergency heart operation. It has come as a great shock to all who knew her. She was instrumental in setting up the Environment and Remote Sensing Institute in Harare together with Peter Zeil of GTZ, and she was well-known in Remote Sensing and GIS circles.

Summer Symposium 2015

The Summer Symposium was held on 20th November 2015 at Caribbea Bay -  Kariba and attended by 45 members.
 
The Director of the Zimbabwe Geological Survey Temba Hawadi officially opened the symposium.

Chewore Dinosaur Field Trip - May 2015

The Geological Society of Zimbabwe organised a field trip to the Chewore-South Area, from Saturday the 23 th of May to the Monday 25 th of May.
 
The trip was lead by Ali Ait-Kaci, organised by Gayle Hanssen and concerned 17 people.
 
Departure on the Saturday the 23th, 7h30, from Mazoe Dam. A field trip guide was distributed to the participants (Thanks to the Mining Engineering Institute, UZ, for the printing).

AGM 2015

The Annual General Meeting of the Geological Society of Zimbabwe was held at The Country Club,  Brompton Road, Highlands, Harare on the 13th March 2015 and attended by 35 members and guests.

The Summer Symposium was held on 28th November 2014 at the Geological Department at the University of Zimbabwe.

Every two years, the Fellows Committee of the Geological Society of South Africa invite an esteemed academic researcher to present the Alex du Toit Memorial Lecture to Branches and Divisions of the GSSA, and to associated societies in neighbouring countries.
