Passing of Teddy Zengeni

It is with great sadness that we announce that Teddy Zengeni, an Honourary Life Member of the Geological Society of Zimbabwe, died in South Africa on 31 October 2024.

Dr Zengeni was born on 3 April 1942 in the Nyanga District. He attended St Augustines and Goromonzi secondary schools: Teddy graduated with a BSc Honours from University College of Rhodesia and Nyasaland in 1964.  He went on to study geophysics at Stanford University in the USA, first for an MSc and then was awarded a PhD on “KKP and the Fine Structure of the Earth’s Core”: in 1970

Dr Zengeni returned home in 1970 to join the Physics Department and eventually became the University of Zimbabwe Dean of Science in 2001. He made significant contributions to the understanding of Zimbabwe geology through several collaborative geophysical surveys throughout his career and was well respected in the scientific community.

Teddy will be greatly missed by his colleagues, former students, and the members of the scientific community who knew him.

Our sincere condolences to his wife Rosemary, their four children and grandchildren.
