It is with great sadness that we announce that Dai Jones, an Honourary Life Member of the Geological Society of Zimbabwe, died in Canada on Thursday 28th August 2024.

Dai obtained his PhD degree in Solid State Physics from Exeter University.   He lived and worked at various times in both Canada and Zimbabwe.

Dai is especially well known for his pioneering palaeomagnetic work around the world and especially in Southern Africa.

He was an excellent teacher and mentor and after retiring from the University of Zimbabwe, her spent some years teaching at St John's College in Harare where he continued to inspire and then spent his final years in Canada.

Our sincere condolences to his wife Barbara and children Malcom and Claire and their families.
