Passing of Maarten de Wit

We regret to announce that one of our Honorary Members, Maarten de Wit, passed away on Wednesday, April 15.
In 2000, Maarten delivered Macgregor Memorial Lecture to the Geological Society of Zimbabwe titled "Old rocks act lies: that's why it is so difficult to reconstruct what Earth looked like long ago”
Professor Maarten de Wit was one of Africa’s most distinguished earth scientists whose research interests spanned geodynamics, tectonics and stratigraphy, early earth processes and the evolution of the Gondwana supercontinent.
He held the Chair of Earth Stewardship Science and was the Science Director of the African Earth Observatory Network at Nelson Mandela University.
