We have had sad news that Dr Fatima Ferraz passed away last Friday night in hospital in Johannesburg after 6 weeks in ICU, following complications that set in after a major 11 hour emergency heart operation. It has come as a great shock to all who knew her. She was instrumental in setting up the Environment and Remote Sensing Institute in Harare together with Peter Zeil of GTZ, and she was well-known in Remote Sensing and GIS circles. She was only in her early fifties.

The Geological Society of Zimbabwe offers condolences to her only remaining close relative, her brother Allan Ferraz.

Fatima’s funeral is on Friday11 December 2015 at 11:30, Rosebank Catholic Church, Johannesburg.
